My info sheet about COM certification:
Computer (need 1-2 per shift/NWAL certified): Assist the Meet Manager (2026 Amber Allen) in data entry of times. Post results as available (we stopped this in 2024 – everyone has Swimtopia app). Deliver awards labels as available.
- Log in to NWALcertified.com to activate (or create) your account.
- THEN, apply for your background check (you will be reimbursed at the end of season party if you've worked minimum 3 shifts) $18. NWALcertified.com: Home Screen: Background check - click “Required” hyperlink. When approved, Home Screen: background check will display “Completed (date)”. Our Team Code is BREN.
- Sign up for classes (you don’t have to wait until your background check is complete): Computer classes are online-only (no in person class). From NWALcertified.com, click “Class Sign Up.” You will receive an email from the instructor giving specific instructions for the class. In 2023, it was a Zoom Mtg (I believe in 2024, as well).
- Pass the test. It usually takes overnight to process their attendance & log it into NWALcertified. You will then be able to log in & “Take Official Test.” As of 2025, computer test must be passed with 90%.
Dress code from 2026 rule book: While officiating during any regularly scheduled NWAL swim meet, including Divisional Meets and Invitational Meets, Referees, Stroke and Turn Officials, Starters, Clerk of Course, and Computer Certified Personnel shall wear a standard uniform which bears no writing, insignia, or other mark identifying the officials’ NWAL swim team affiliation. The standard NWAL uniform shall be a white collared shirt with sleeves (cap sleeves are allowed for ladies) and navy-blue pants, shorts, or skirt.
2026: Computer, Clerk of Course, & Team Rep do not require provisional certifications.
NOTE from Amber: The computers class will give a very brief synopsis of what is needed during a meet. Its main focus is to educate officials on NWAL Rules (don’t get discouraged!!). A copy of the rule book can be found on NWAL.org home page (hyperlink towards the right of the page) & it’s an open-book / open-notes test. After passing the class, I will teach you what is actually needed during a meet.
2026 returning COM: Amber Allen (Meet Manager), Jen Posern, Windy McCall, Tara Wehmeyer (you do not have to re-certify this year)
